My updated site and how to improve your website too
I have been writing for 5 days straight to experiment what the writing process would feel like. In the past, I have been writing my blog for just a few times a month, sometimes longer. But I felt that I should discipline myself more and see what kind of posts I would write, what kind of reaction I may receive.
Though I am very passionate about my art, I felt that a blog should be a homepage. Plus I like the idea of my homepage changing often, and not so static. It keeps my site fresh and interesting, because you don’t know what’s coming up. My vision of my site (and has gone through some changes lately), is that I want something simple, easy to navigate, and just trim the fat to get right to the essence of it all. A good artsite should have the following essential items I believe:
- A simple logo/header
- A simple background color
- easy to navigate gallery
- A contact, about and gallery page
- great photos of your artwork
- pictures of yourself to make you and your site more “human”
I only speak from experience, and don’t claim to be a master web-designer, but after spending 10 years with various websites and observing others, my latest incarnation I think is my best, because of the soft blue header and without all the side widgets.
And if you’re going to blog, write something from your heart, don’t try to force emotion, just let everything flow and keep the reader in mind. If you are interesting, you will write interesting things.
Another thing you should know about my art is that I have always kept a simple palette of colors. I have done it this way for over 20 years, though lately I have been experiementing with a “double-primary” palette (a warm and cool color of each primary), conceived by artist Mikki Senkarik, a great and inspirational artist that anyone will benfit from knowing on a deeper level. Check her out.
I am less than 3 weeks until my trip to Tucson for the Great American Muralist Competition. I will keep you updated on that as well. I am also trying to sell more art to help raise funds for my trip, and I am having a special 20% sale in September for any works in my gallery. I will also be taking pet portrait commissions too, so feel free to contact me for more details! And thanks for following my posts!
