Meet Bear, but he’s really a dog
‘Bear’ 14×11 oil on board

One of my latest works, a cool friend named Amanda, whom I haven’t seen since Fisher Junior High School in Ewing, NJ, found her on Facebook (surprise!). I asked for a shout-out of pet pics because I needed to get more experience with portrait painting. She was the only one who sent me a photo of her beloved deceased mutt named, “Bear”. So when I saw her pic, I was moved and wanted to paint this. I might even paint another version, because I wasn’t sure if this one I wanted to give to Amanda. I probably should have answered back, but life as always seemed to get in the way. Now it’s been 2 months since receiving her dog pic, so I decided to put it on my website. I’m not sure if she’ll like it, but I’ll do another version in the near future and see how it turns out too.
I used some thick black paint for the ears. When I did the face and body, I felt it need some surreal abstract strokes, so I was compelled to go into my little world and pull something out to finish the painting. It’s a very spiritual piece in my opinion. The expression and passion put in was sincere, so I’m glad it came out the way it did. Here’s to you Bear!
