I’ve always told people that this painting, El Santuario is the jewel of my collection. But I felt that it could be more colorful and dynamic as the painting deserves to be. So recently I started with the trees, put more strokes and some more color to lively it up. I then worked on the gate to make it very welcoming, like a party was going on in here. Though the church represents worship, sacrifice and tradition, and I respect that very much, I wanted throw in my own ideas of what a joy it is to be here, a sense of aliveness and celebration. I’m really getting into colors and I feel I’m getting more expressive with the brushstrokes. I believe an artist has to throw in a little of himself/herself to make it his/her own. I owe that to myself and the people who enjoy original art. I wanted to see how festive I could make this, after all New Mexico is a very festive place, and also a place of worship, tradition and sacrifice. And I have done all of that and then some! So I hope the final results are worthy as I believe they are. Feel free to comment!
