Here it is, the day that finally arrived, time to put the ‘ol best foot forward and “show the world what you got” attitude. I felt that I brought my best work, including several large abstract paintings. The day was sunny, about the low 60’s and even though there was a threat of rain, it didn’t rain on Saturday. Sunday it rained briefly but was clear most of the time. Saturday turned out to be the better of the two days.
There were many lookers. My approach to “woo” people into my booth, my art, my world is to simply say, “I’m a landscape and portrait painter from New Mexico, I have my originals, prints, notecards and magnets”. I soon realized that the economy did have an effect of the crowds. People were conservative and treated the show like an art museum. I was there to make sales, not have another professional experience. But I did end up selling a horse painting which really was the difference in my perception of the show. I sold mostly notecards and magnets.
What else can I say? I did my best and that’s all I could ask for. The booth looked great, I learned quite a bit from other vendors. What else? Apply at better shows, paint more work, get more exposure. So how can I end this trip on a high note? By going to Sedona to paint some landscapes, that’s what! I went there this past Tuesday, which was on the way home. And if you never been to Sedona, it’s become one of my favorite places, I highly recommend to visit there. And of course I’ll post those two paintings soon.
